Green building products are part of a growing market, and in Manitoba in particular, there is a strong interest from building owners and architects in having locally manufactured green building products. In addition, the Province has recently mandated that all new provincial commercial and residential buildings are to be rated LEED® Silver. This itself opens up a large potential market for locally produced green building products. Composite materials offer a range of attributes that lend themselves well to green building products, including low environmental footprint, good insulation properties, design flexibility and improved structural performance. This SIG Event will provide information on the state of green building products manufactured and distributed in Manitoba that are related to composite materials, and other emerging composite technologies used in green building products around the world. An overview will also be provided on the activities and goals of the recently formed CGBP-MB Network (Composite Green Building Products – Manitoba Network), and how this CIC initiative is working to make Manitoba a centre for the development and implementation of composite green building products.
