Bristol Aerospace Ltd

Bristol Aerospace Ltd has continuously evolved since it was established in 1930 developing new capabilities and product lines. Initially building metal floats for seaplanes, Bristol became the key repair facility for the Canadian Air Force, diversified into aero engine component and aircraft structure manufacture which includes composite material processing.

In response to an upcoming business opportunity Bristol wished to externally validate their ability to process a new high temperature composite material. Bristol approached CIC to coordinate the testing at a third party laboratory, the Industrial Technology Centre, analyze the results and participate in test panel development. The CIC’s role was to ensure an objective evaluation was completed and to complement Bristol’s internal composite resources. The testing was successfully completed and allowed Bristol to develop confidence in their ability to process BMI prepregs to a level consistent with their potential customer’s requirements.

“The CIC’s significant contributions of knowledge, timely effort, and unreserved support were critical to the successful outcome of this project. The CIC staff involved proved themselves to be very knowledgeable and enthusiastic in their efforts to help Bristol develop this important technology,” says Mr. Rick Cole, Senior Technical Advisor, Composites Engineering.

Bristol sees CIC as a valuable project partner for future projects. “The CIC has proven to be a very capable and supportive partner for advanced composite technology development, and Bristol looks forward to working together with them on future projects,” Mr. Cole says. In fact upon completion of this project Bristol and CIC were already defining additional projects where CIC would support Bristol.
